What is a crane?

The BGV D6 regulation defines:
Cranes [...] are hoists, which lift loads with a carrying mechanism and can also be moved in one or more directions.

An "encyclopaedia" of the year 1842 states: "Cranes or Kraniche are machines, by means of which loads are drawn to a certain height, and when they have been thus hoisted, are moved to or lowered at a different place. All machines of this sort accordingly provide a double movement: 1. the actual elevation and 2. the displacement of the load, which can be circular or horizontal according to the purpose of the work."

So much for the historical development of the crane concept. Meanwhile, we speak of mature crane system technology, which offers our customers individual solutions for specific applications while taking location, space conditions and the load to be moved into consideration.
